Backpacking Palawan by The Wanderwalkers
Palawan (El Nido, Coron, Port Barton)

If you’re already in Palawan, why not take the chance to visit the more popular towns such as Coron, El Nido and Port Barton? Although you will encounter bigger crowds here, that should not hinder you from experiencing their breathtaking beauty. Clear blue waters backdropped by tall karst stones? Shipwreks incredible for diving? You shouldn’t miss that!

Here’s a 2-week DIY itinerary you can follow for PPS, Coron, El Nido and Port Barton.

Sharing these local contacts to help you plan your trip to these other places in Palawan:
El Nido – April of The Couch El Nido
Coron – Eacel of Tutu Tours

If you’re traveling from Manila – Coron vv, you have an option to take a ferry for only 1000Php/person. If you have time, you can experience it!

Abra Province

We consider Abra in North Luzon as the waterfall capital of the North! Our favorite is Kili Falls and Hotspring which is accessible from the Bangued town (7 hours from Manila). Kili is a nature spa blessed with a powerfull waterfalls, natural hostpring, hotspring cave, rice terraces, scenic views of the valley and adorable limestone formations. But before you enjoy that, you will have to endure a thrilling 5 hour jeepney ride (toploading possible) passing through countless mountainback roads and rivers.

Another favorite is Kaparkan waterfalls which magically turns into a long wide stretch of spring terraces during rainy days (July to Nov).

Abra Province
batad Rice Terraces Ifugao
Batad Rice Terraces, Ifugao

Are you into mountains also? If hiking is your thing and Rice Terraces are something that wows you, then go for Batad! Although Banaue is the most popular rice terraces in the country, Batad is more glorious and non-touristy. Its rice fields form an ampitheatre that turns into luscious greens every harvest season! A number of trekking routes are also available such as Tappiya waterfalls, Awa viewpoint, Banga-an Village and so on. There’s such too much to explore! Aside from that, it was also a setting of Avengers Infinity War as Thanos’ final home.

You can do DIY trip there without hiring guides, saving time from tips on our Batad DIY Travel Guide here.

Other Countries

Here's recommended destinations outside Philippines!
Mt. Fansipan, Sapa Vietnam

Vietnam is one of our favorite Southeast Asian destination for adventures and for satisfying our gastronomic cravings. You can do motorbike trips in the mountainous northern provinces such as Ha Giang, Ninh Binh and Ba Be Lake but nothing beats hiking the summit of the highest peak in Indochina, Mt. Fansipan. Witnessing sunrise over a sea of clouds is defintely heaven-like!

Our Vietnam trips were made possible and memorable by our Vietnam tour guide Joey of The Terrible Tourguide. Contact him if you want a customizable tour.
